A Pause For A Poem
a goodnight kiss
suddenly
crossing town
between the madness
an old, bedraggled woman
stumbling in just her nightie
elegant fake pistol in bony hand
strangers are my only friends, she wails
and friends now just cocky strangers
hey, sweetheart, don’t be shy
this one for charity
one last memory
a goodnight
kiss

I hope it never comes to that for me. But sometimes...strangers do make the best friends.
Love the photograph.
Hi Shameless,
2 things I like very much are the concept & unusual theme you've employed for the poem and also on how you placed the phrase a goodnight kiss.
Evocative! :-)
LMN,
Hi, thanks. Thankfully, I can't visualise you in this kind of
context! :)
Hi Susan, or Suzan, I'm not sure which is which because I've seen both spellings for you : ) - thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you liked it ... and I'm glad blogger let me put it into the format I wanted :)
Yeah the format Seamus, I'm jealous. On to the actual poem now rather than the form, I really liked it; dark and evocative. You created a real character there.
I've also written my entry and will be sending it off in a wee while. I'm looking forward to reading them now.
Hi V,
Isn't blogger a bugger for being fiddly about form and format. I am forcing myself to learn html code, to do stuff that blogger doesn't! :)
I'm glad you liked the poem ... :)
And I look forward to reading your entry in Moon's contest, even if I won't know it's yours until the end!
I can see you're learning the HTML, love the new banner too. I tried for ages to change the words comment to something else and I realised I was going to have to go back to the classic template and that it was a nice day and I could be doing other things... But if you want to share you're know how!!
V,
Yes, I will happily share with you my html knowledge, as limited as it is! :) I will send you a mail. Do you use any kind of html code when you write up messages?
Everytime you redecorate I think 'hmmm...not sure about this'.then I get used to and am really enjoying it when whammo- evrything's different AGAIN. Love the new banner, but the jury's out on what is reading -on my monitor at least; the beige. Maybe it will grow on me. But beige Seamus?
Hi Shameless,
Susan will always be my real name. But call me what you like. :-)
btw, your blog page looks very attractive. I liked the earlier shade of green as well.
Oh, think you might have captured me in later years - would hate to think that all the kissing would stop!
As for the blog decor - I think that you have to live with something for a while.
It comes up a sort of pinky beigy colour on me laptop but the header looks classy.
Nice to Maht's comp up again - hope we've all entered?
Hi LMN, yes, guilty as charged! I've been changing the colours a lot lately ... slap, slap ... but I just can't decide which colours are best. I decided a dark background was becoming too difficult to read (for me and others), tiring for the eyes. Now that I've gone for a lighter background, I find it easier to read and more refreshing. I love deep colours, but for reading I'm not sure. Also, when the banner is full of colour, it's quite nice to let it breathe, not drowned out by lots of other colour. I think I will just settle on this for the meantime, but still tossing up between this background (beige? I saw cream, cheesecake cream, but is it my screen?), light grey or just plain white. The grey was a little too grey like a drizzle coming and the white would be too simple, maybe. What does everyone else think? Shall I stay with this cream/beige, and hope it grows on LMN? Do let me know.
Susan,
Ah, good, I prefer your name with an S. I'm glad you like the new colours (will I ever settle on something and stop fiddling about with all the different options?) The problem is that there is so much choice! :) Yes, I liked the green, but it washed out the banner, I think. I am definitely going lighter in the background. :)
and Minx, I certainly hope you won't be forcing young men to kiss you with a fake pistol when you're older! :) Re the decor, yes, as I say above, I will have to just settle on something and let it go. Stop all this fussing about, Seamus, Background colour - cream or white, or light grey - might change if I find lots of people hate it, or if I find it's funny when I see it on other screens.
wonderful structure and choice of words. marvellous!
CS,
Thanks for your kind words ... I'm glad you liked it. :)
hey derek, thanks, I will check this out. :)
I really enjoyed the poem.
