I had some short stories, poems and photographs to share ... and so here I am

Take Me Out Tonight !

This is a very exciting week on the creative level! On Thursday a theatre production opens here in Lyon, featuring songs and music written and performed by yours truly. (To enlarge the following images from the flyer, simply click on them).

I don't suppose any of you fellow bloggers are going to be able to make it. But Verilion? Didn't you say you were coming to Lyon the weekend after next? I was so thrilled to be able to do something like this, especially a production that is totally in French. I have close ties with the theatre company and jumped at the chance to create some music. I have played the piano in shows before, in New Zealand and in Britain, but this is my first time in France and the first time my own music is being used.

I recorded the piano music for this, to avoid having to play every night during the two weeks of performances. I haven't seen anything at all of the show yet (I'll get my first peek at the dress rehearsal on Wednesday night) and I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous. How will the music come across? How is it being used? How will the songs be sung? I will let you know. I will also put up a video later with some highlights.

Meanwhile, check out these publicity shots that I took for the play. It's a comedy about an old music star, La Divine, who attempts a comeback with the help of her former pianist/songwriter, Elliot Franklin.

How wonderful, Seamus!
So very exciting! Congratulations!
Pics are lovely.
Will you be over the moon listening to your own music and watching the performance?
What's your repertoire?
This calls for champagne. :-)

Oh, yes, champagne is in the fridge ready to go after the opening on Thursday night! The songs are kind of cabaret-style, but also with the sense of comedy! It'll be strange hearing my own music in front of all those people! I will try not to shrink! :)

How exciting! I hope it goes fantastically well. I'd love to visit France again, but unfortunately it couldn't be this weekend. You'll have to let us know how it goes here.

Congratulations Seamus! Good for you. And I got to see the slide show this time. Don't go yellow on the night, okay. Even though you look somewhat yellow right now, and surprisingly, it suits you.

Litlove,
Hi, and thanks. Yes, our fingers and toes are crossed! I will try to film some of the music and put up some highlights here. :)

Saaleha,
Thanks. It's been a real struggle to work out which colour to use for the profile, which is why I put up the various options. I suppose I just shouldn't have started playing around with the colours and I shouldn't have attempted something "arty". But I think a change in colour every now and then will probably be the best option. :)

Shameless, I think the whole aspect will be pretty electrifying and give you more than an adrenalin rush.

It would be excellent for your cv when you submit novel manuscripts. If you choose agents in Britain, there are a fair number who do authors and theatre. These agents may be interested in your music production even as they read your manuscript.

Dare I hope for any caviar? The yellow was cool. :-)

Dear Shameless
home for a couple of hours to check on things, could'nt resist popping over to your place for a cuppa. I love your new 'public face'. The site is getting better all the time and as you now design and colour say a lot about the person too. I wish i could read french, but the promo stills are very interesting, I take it that it's essentially a two person show?
i agree with susan that this can only look good on your cv.
i wish you evry success on opening night

Susan,
Electrifying is the word! :)Could this really help sell a novel? I'm in ... whatever it takes! :)

Hi LMN,
Yes, I feel much more at home with something warmer and richer. Thanks for your encouragement re the show ... yes, it's a two person affair ... I see the final dress rehearsal tonight and it's very funny! The music worked as well, so I'm very happy! :) Now, opening tomorrow night!

Hi Seamus,

I'm a fine one to talk. :-)

I have done up to this moment, my homework regarding literary agents in Britain but I haven't as yet submitted anything because I didn't feel ready until very recently.

I know that, besides AC Black which is on my sidebar and contains one of the most legitimate updated agent links in the world, there is also another database you could use if you want to.

This is Doolee.Com If you click literary agents on the sidebar, it's got a whole new set in the UK for instance, that don't advertise in AC Black. I discovered it accidentally.

These are agents who represent theatre but they also ask for writers & authors of non-fiction or novelists.

When they know you are multi-talented or have had work shown in theatre production, you immediately become an asset. As they could sell your work in different ways.
I think at the end of the day, the ball will be thrown back at your feet, Seamus for you to call the shots on how much of yourself you want to give to the world in this saleable way of music & writing.

One example of versatality is McFarlane Chard Associates in the UK. You can submit your cv straightaway on the Internet. They represent an equal balance of actors, playwrights as well as novelists. Here it is: McFarlane Chard Ass..

Whether you try agent or publisher, have fun, Seamus. :-)

Seamus,
I made a mistake with www.doollee.com.
Here is the right link I hope....

That's so unbelievably exciting, Seamus! I wish I could see it.

Congrats!!

Oh, Susan, you are an absolute gem, digging that out for me. Wonderful! :) I will note all of that down, ready for the day when I launch myself out there on the multi-media, globalised platform! Thanks again for your kindness.

Jason,
Exciting, yes, but I'm nervous as hell. Well, a little less after seeing the final dress rehearsal last night, and seeing that everything goes very well together. It'll be great to see it with a theatre full of people! The acting is very good and the script is very funny!

Oh! You've almost gone pink! But seriously, yes I will be visiting Lyon that weekend (while you're in PARIS!!!) I've sent a text to travelling companion so I'll get a response this evening.
I hope the opening night went well. This is super exciting.

S. Kearney said...

Yes, Verilion, ahhhhh, Paris for a long weekend, which is one of the reasons why I had to record the piano music for this and not do it live. It would be great if you could go along though. It's on at 2030 on the Thursday 29, Friday 30 and Saturday 31. Can your read the flyer text for the number or email to book tickets. They say it pays to book, as it fills up fast. You can then introduce yourself afterwards to Olivier and Anne, the actors, as V from Paris, fellow blogger of Shameless. (I will warn them if you are going!) What a connection that would be, if not in person! :)

How cool are you?
Come over for a celebratory gin - I'll make sure they've all got their knickers on!!

So Thursday has come and gone - but the show will still be running I guess? Sounds like it went well. How exciting!! for you. Must be a real thrill. Looking forward to the video.

Oh man, Shameless, this sounds great.

How did it go? Feeling of satisfaction? Disappoinments? Surprises? You must be very proud.

How do you think your painting affects your music and how do those things affect your writing? You don't have to answer here but maybe a thought for a blog post (if you have never done it).

Minx, CB and GoodThomas, :) The opening night went like a blast ... and tonight's show was even better. Things have gone really well and the public have seemed very happy! :) It's great to see it all come together. Wow! :)

How did the show go?

S. Kearney said...

Nancy,
Everything has gone really swimmingly. I have seen the show three times now and it's really very funny! The public seemed to enjoy the humour and there was very good feedback on the music ... sigh of relief! I will post a few photos I took early this week, with a brief summary of how it all felt, and then a video that gives a taste of the music in the next few weeks. It was a great experience.
