Mysterious Venice
I've just had a wonderful week away, staying with my partner's Italian relatives near Venice. Oh the food! The language! Mama mia, I've put on a kilo! I read nothing. I wrote nothing. I relaxed and cleared my head. Everything was slow. It was 35 degrees or higher most days, so a shady place was like heaven.
Yes, I did buy one of those famous masks; mine is a bright red one, which looks great on the piano. It was my second visit to Venice, but it felt as if I were seeing everything for the very first time. Here are some of the more than 300 photos that I took:
We went to Venice via Switzerland, which we visit often, and passed through the villages around Italy's Lake Como. The night in Varenna, pictured here, was magic.
There was also time to check out Verona, as in Romeo and Juliet's Verona. This is supposed to be the balcony.
But don't worry, I'm not one of the thousands who've left love notes at the entrance to "Juliet's house".
After the holidays, at the end of August, I plan to bring the best Venice photos together and make another video presentation, complete with original piano music. My Ireland photos are also lined up for similar treatment. The piano compositions are almost finished.

All that is well and good, but have you been to Bucksnort Tennessee? Didn't think so. What you are missing is a fine, fine gas station and a Motel 3.
Hi Jessica,
Ha ha. :) Bucksnort! The name alone makes me want to go there. Is there a poem about Bucksnort? Why not write one? The only thing annoying about Venice was the number of tourists ... but then I realised that I counted among them! :)
Oh I loved Venice when I went there. I loved the winged lions too, the whole place has a magical feel to it. Looking forward to seeing more photos.
I stopped through Bucksnort 10 yrs ago with my friend when we were driving to Texas. There were truck drivers at the gas station who acted like they'd never seen young women before. Nothing like getting whistled at by fat truck drivers! Maybe they just wanted to fill our 'tanks'.
Love the pictures-especially the one with the blank masks. Put me down for the unadorned beaked one.
"I have never taken any exercise except sleeping and resting" looks like you followed Mark Twain's principles on healthy living!:).. great pics
Jessica,
Ha ha. I can just picture the scene. Beam me up Scotty!
V,
Yes, there were so many lions with wings, high up on pillars. Very fascinating. I look forward to making a video with music after the hols.
Hi LMN,
Yes, the masks thing felt quite touristy and commercialised when we were there but I just couldn't resist! :)
Blithe Muse,
Hi and welcome. Thanks for your visit. Yes, I have weeks of doing nothing ahead of me. Switching off is the slogan. That means this blog will go a bit sleepy, until I return at the end of August. Feel free to call by anytime. :)
I loved Verona - I thought the coliseum had much more character and feel than Rome.
Beautiful pictures! These places fill your heart. Oh, I have to return to Venice!...
Stunning, beautiful pictures...
Hi Minx,
Yes, and the lost little streets were great to explore, away from the tourist trail! :)
Vesper,
It's true that the emotions go up and the heart skips a beat. Good for the soul.
Hi Absolute Vanilla,
Thank you. There are more, which will appear in a video presentation. Stay tuned! :)
Love the pictures! Absolutely stunning.
I feel as if I have been on a virtual holiday....sigh. Still raining in London.
Hi Marie, and thanks. The power of dreamy places. :)
Hi ML,
I wanted rain when it got to 45 degrees! :)
Seamus,
I am so glad that you are creating new picture slides and music. I absolutely love your music, if it was something I could buy to listen to constantly, I would. It echoes in my soul and frees it to soar.
Your pictures always sweep me away, you have such a good eye for the little things that make every place a wonder. You seem to take the viewer by the hand and lead them through each place in an almost tangible way... feeling the air, breathing it in, warming to the sun or hearing each subtle sound that lives there. The sights, the feel, the taste, the people, the universality of every shot you post makes simplicity stunning and leaves no stone unturned. Spending time wandering in each of the images is other-worldly. The music is always a perfect compliment to the views, breathing life and emotion into the experience... you create a waking dream. I always come away richer in spirit, and very happy.
Did you know all that?
Thank you so much for sharing your great talents, your wonderful travels and your very special perspective of the world we live in.
...this is going to be like waiting for Christmas! Oh! The wait!
But it will be well worth every minute.
Thank you.
Scarlett & Viaggiatore
Really great mysterious places! I'd love to visit them!
